Forging is a system in Eternal Return that allows players to unlock characters and cosmetics.

Description[]

The forging menu (which can be accessed from the main lobby) features 3 different sections: Box, Forging and Exchange

Box[]

Data Boxes are a way for players to try their luck to get rare or exclusive cosmetic items, including those that can't normally be obtained through the store. To open a box, players simply select the one they want to open, and then click the buttons at the bottom right (to either open 1 box, or 10 boxes at a time).

There are two types of standard boxes:

Research Center Data Box: This box contains various items and designs. Ranked Rewards and Limited Time items are not included. Data Boxes can be purchased from Store bundles or other products.
Skin Data Box:This box contains skins and skin designs. Ranked rewards and some specially utilized items are not included. Data Boxes can be purchased from Store bundles or other products.

Data Keys are required to open Skin Data boxes. Both boxes and keys can either be earned as rewards from ER passes, daily tasks, promotions, events, etc. or they can be purchased with NP / Event NP from the store.

Other types of boxes may appear for limited periods of time in the store, or as promotional rewards. Once opened, these boxes grant either character and cosmetic designs (which can then be assembled in the Forging section) or the complete items.

In addition, a variant of boxes exist called Vouchers, which act very similarly to data boxes but don't require a key to use them. Some of these vouchers also allow you to select what reward you wish from a list.

Skin Data Box:
- Uncommon Skin: 16%
- Rare Skin: 10%
- Epic Skin: 4%
- Uncommon Skin Design: 40%
- Rare Skin Design: 25%
- Epic Skin Design: 5%

Forging[]

Designs obtained from opening boxes can be found in this section. These designs can be Crafted into the completed item, and any unwanted designs or that are for items already owned can be disassembled.

Players will need Data Fragments to craft items. These fragments can be obtained by disassembling Uncommon skins or other items and designs. Epic rarity cosmetics will also require Rare Data Fragments, which can be obtained by disassembling an Epic or Rare skin.

The cost varies with the design type:

Uncommon Skin designs: 195 Data Fragments

Common Emote designs: 35 Data Fragments
Emblem designs: 90 Data Fragments
Announcer designs: ? Data Fragments
Other designs: 35 Data Fragments

Each time a Complete item is disassembled there is a small fixed chance to get Season Tokens (used in the Exchange section), another random design, or even a completed item along with the Data Fragments.

Exchange[]

Tokens earned in various ways can be exchanged for rewards here. The primary type of tokens are Season Tokens, themed after each season. Apart from this, there is also Milleage tokens earned by making premium purchases. In addition, certain limited boxes may give you tokens that can be exchanged for rewards (Such as the Holiday boxes granting Holiday tokens).

Season tokens[]

Any Tokens earned during the season can be used here to unlock cosmetic items. Tokens can be obtained through the ER PASS, Season Pack, or by disassembling skins in Forging. Tokens from one season can be converted from one season to the next's at a 3:2 ratio. Once the expiration date arrives, any leftover Tokens will be deleted so it is adviced to use them all up before then.

Mileage[]

Mileage is a special type of token, granted for purchasing products with NP, or by purchasing NP with real money. Mileage can be used to directly unlock many exclusive skins that are featured in the boxes.

The following rewards can be obtained though Mileage:

Epic skins: 450 Mileage
Rare skins: 300 Mileage
Uncommon skins: 175 Mileage
